I got my first degree (Diplom) at the University of Hamburg in 1983.
The year after I spent at the Brandeis University, supported by a grant
of the German Academic
Exchange Service (1983/84).
Supported by the Swiss National Foundation, I continued my studies at
the University of Basel,
where I got a PhD in 1988.
1988 - 1989 post-doc position at the Istituto Guido Castelnuovo, Università
di Roma La Sapienza,
supported by a scholarship of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche.
1989 - 1990 post-doc position as a Maître de Conference at the Institut Fourier,
Université de Grenoble.
1990 - 1994 post-doc position at the Mathematics Department of the University of Basel,
supported by a grant of the Swiss National Foundation
1993 Habilitation
1994 visiting professorship at the
Mathematics Department of the University of Bern
1994 - 2000 professorship at the Département de Mathématique, Université
Louis Pasteur (Strasbourg)
1997 - 2000 elected junior member of Institut universitaire de France
2000 - 2005 professorship (C4) at the Mathematics Department of the University of Wuppertal.
