All students attending my classes can
reach me in room 233 in MSB (second floor), by
phone 486-2362 during the office hours listed in the
above schedule, or contact me by e-mail. Additional information
about the course, including the syllabus, can be found on the Math Department
Math 112 pages. The pages also list meeting times and places
of review sessions offered by the Department and the University.
The textbook used is Calculus, Single Variable, Second Edition by Hughes-Hallett, Gleason et al. The course will cover sections 1.1-1.11, 2.1-2.5, 4.1-4.6. Use of graphing calculators is required (TI-82, 83, 85 or 86 are recommended).
Exams, quizzes, projects, homework:
- | The Gateway Exam on algebra will be given in class on Friday, September 22. Calculators are not allowed for the gateway exam. The exam will count as one hour exam. The only grades given on the exam will be 70% or higher. There is no partial credit and anything lower than 70% is an F. Students may re-take the exam outside of class at designated times. The highest grade among all the attempts will be the one recorded for the GW exam grade. Mandatory counseling will be arranged for students performing poorly on the first two attempts. |
- | Two hour exams: Friday, October 27, and Friday, December 1. |
- | The Final Exam is on Monday, December 18. |
- | Approximately one quiz and one to two projects a week (quizzes on Friday, projects on Wednesday, unless announced otherwise). Two lowest quiz grades and three lowest project grades will be dropped. No make-ups. |
- | Assigned homework will be reviewed at the beginning of the next class but not collected. |
The final grade consists of the following four components:
- | Quizzes | 1/6 |
- | Projects | 1/6 |
- | Gateway Exam and 2 hour exams | 1/3 |
- | Final Exam | 1/3 |
