Hanspeter Schmidli
I was born
in 1963 in Lucerne in Switzerland. Before I went
out to see the world I lived in the beautiful village Horw, just south
of Lucerne
at the
border of the Lake Lucerne
and at the bottom of Mount Pilate. In 1984 I
started my studies of mathematics at ETH in Zürich. In 1989 I
started my PhD-studies under supervision of Paul Embrechts. After a
postdoctoral year in Århus (Denmark) I lectured
for one year at the
Department of Actuarial Mathematics
and Statistics at Heriot-Watt
University in Edinburgh.
From 1995 to 2000 I was an associate professor
at the Department of Theoretical Statistics and Operations
Research at the University of Århus (Denmark). From 2000 to
2004 I worked as full professor at the Laboratory of Actuarial Mathematics at the Institute of Mathematical
Sciences of the University of Copenhagen (Denmark). Since
2004 I am employed as Professor for Stochastics/Actuarial Mathematics at the
Institute of
Mathematics of the University of Cologne.
