The network has been formed by ten research groups in the subject area of algebras and representations; four of these research groups are in China, six in three different European countries. The project operated from the 1st of October 2002 until September 30, 2005. The European Community provided core funding for a period of three years under the AsiaLink scheme (starting date: October 1), contract number ASI/B7-301/98/679-11. Additional support for network activities has been obtained from the London Mathematical Society, the Royal Society, as well as the Leverhulme Trust in form of an academic interchange network Algebras, Representations and Applications. The network's aim has been to educate Chinese PhD students in a sandwich PhD programme. There have been 15 scholarships available over the period of three years. For the academic year 2002/03 five scholarships have been awarded, for 2003/04 seven scholarships have been awarded, and in 2004/05 three. There are no further scholarships available. Moreover, the network organised and funded training missions of Chinese staff to Europe and of European staff to China. In the third year of the project, a conference has been held May 23 to 28, 2005 at Beijing Normal University: International AsiaLink conference on Algebras and Representations. The AsiaLink conference has been followed by a Workshop on Homology, Geometry, and Combinatorics of Representations in the Sino-German Science Centre in Beijing, May 29 - 30, 2005. A Summerschool on Derived Categories in Representation Theory (with a view towards geometry and topology) has been held August 22 to 26, 2005 at Tsinghua University, Beijing. Management team: An advert of the project can be downloaded here (word format). Our AsiaLink project has finished, but activities and collaborations are going on. Here we list a few examples of recent activities and awards, but no attempt is made to produce a complete list. In September 2006, Bangming Deng and Jie Xiao have organized, jointly with Toshiyuki Tanisaki, a summer school Representations of quivers, singularities and Lie theory at the Morningside Centre of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing. In 2006, two former AsiaLink students, Bo Chen (Bejing Normal University) and Ming Fang (USTC Hefei) have been awarded visiting fellowships in the network Algebras, Representations and Applications, which also has supported other members of our network.
