Abstract:
The project will continue to investigate the relations between contact and Lorentzian geometry. The meeting point of both fields is the natural contact structure existing on the space of null geodesics NX of a spacetime X whenever that space happens to be a smooth Hausdorff manifold. The geometry of NX reflects important properties of the spacetime. A recent example is the obstruction to conformal extendibility of causally simple spacetimes found by Hedicke and Suhr.
